Overview
Rubiangel Pena was born the 7th of march of 1958 in Puerto Rico Caqueta. He made it through the 5th grade in primary school. He was in training for farmers leadership in Sutatenza Boyaca in 1975 and another one in 1976 about communitarian leaders for the popular action in Caldas Antioquia. Since 1990 he started with his coffee activity because of familiar tradition. He got the farm El PORVENIR with 0,50 ha in traditional coffee, that is being renovated gradually and now the coffee area is 2,85 ha this days. The average age for the coffee trees is 7 years. Rubiangel Pena is married, father of three children. UIT his wife in his coffee enterprise is generating employees for the neighbours of the region. He is always paying attention to the production conditions to make the quality coffee higher, following the recommendations of the extension service from the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia . He is a natural leader from the coffee guild; he was one of the founders of the group ASPROCUBARRAL, member of the administration council of the Cooperative of coffee Growers of Meta and also the president of the group ASPROCUBARRAL. Care of the Environment The farm limits with the Natural Reserve Parque Nacional Natural Sumapaz, the practices of conservation for the environment are part of the natural context of living for the farmers and neighbours. All of them are working to reduce the negative impact of the activities in their own lands like establishment of alive-barriers in the mountains, conservation of natural water, in the coffee process they use the pulping machine and natural fermentation; the by-products are use to make organic compost.
