NYAGASHIHA Washing station is located in south of BURUNDI in RUMONGE Province, on the high hills overlooking the plain of Lake Tanganyika, the fishiest lake in the world and the deepest in the world after Lake BAIKAL.
Altitude is 1500-1600m near MURAGO River
The coffee culture in the NYAGASHIHA Region began with the Belgian colonization, at that time; the population was planting coffee by the flirt of the Belgian settlers, since they did not understand the importance of this coffee culture.
Little by little, the population came to understand its importance thanks to the notorious name NDAKOZE David, because he showed them the properties of the state from which the population could plant the coffee trees.
After the population reported that this crop brought them money, they came to understand that it was necessary to plant the coffee on a very large scale, because at the end of the campaign of selling their coffee, they had enough to buy the plates for their homes, someone might be able to pay dowry to marry a woman, buy good clothes, but also buy cattle like cow, which is a symbol of wealth.
The coffee from NYAGASHIHA who is one of among SUCCAM washing stations, is also UTZ certified and the standard is at his high level about quality production, environmental protection, traceability, social protection.
Now the coffee culture is paramount in the families of NYAGASHIHA except that the coffee prices are very disappointing and if the price were motivating, the NYAGASHIHA population could work to produce much more coffee and its maintenance.
