Overview
La Asociacion Integral Unidos para Vivir Mejor ASUVIM-, is located in Solola, a town recognize worldwide for the beautiful Atitlan Lake. ASUVIM, is a small coffee growers organization with 93 members (18 women and 75 men), of the ethnic groups Kiche and Tzutuhil, from San Juan La Laguna, Santa Clara La Laguna and Santa Maria Visitacion. Our farm is located in Paquip, Santa Clara la Laguna, stands at 1900 meters above sea level; the annual precipitations are from 1800 to 2000 per year. Temperatures vary from 18 º to 25º C. We are blessed, because we have extraordinary climate conditions, which let us combine coffee and tourism. We are proud of produce an extraordinary organic coffee. ASUVIM was established on 2003, with the effort of the members. The main objective is improve the social and economical development of the members, producing, processing and commercializing gourmet coffee, produce in the Lake Atitlan basin. We produce our coffee according to international sustainable production standards, respecting the culture of our members and our native flora and fauna, all the plantation is environmental friendly. We promote the same work conditions for men and women. ASUVIM works with two production systems: organic and Rainforest Alliance; both systems produce coffee under shadow, help us to protect soil and use environmental friendly products. The quality of our coffee is a combination of unique microclimate, rich soils and hard work of our members. We take care of quality in a whole process, from the seed to the bag in our organization we have a person responsible to control the quality of our coffee. He supervises every step during the production process. At the farm we harvest the best beans, and then we process our coffee in an ecologic mill, with water recirculation. ASUVIM has and ecological mill, capable to process 400 bags daily, all our coffee is sun dry in our patio. Its important mentioned, that at the warehouse we measure humidity, weight and we take 2 pounds sample for the taster lab. We are respectful with our environment, so we have a water treatment plant and we recycle coffee pulp to produce organic fertilizer. Our members believe that sustainable agriculture challenge, is a satisfactory adventure, so besides coffee production, we also promote a coffee tour. The visitors could ride a horse and enjoy the organic coffee plantation and the rainforest of our farm. They will discover incredible mountains and beautiful rivers. At the end, the visitor could visit the wet mill and finish the visit with a delicious cup of ASUVIM coffee and buy some traditional souvenirs.
