About the farm:

The farm “Santa Isabel” is located in the community Buenos Aires in the Dipilto municipality, Department of Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua . It is 1340 m above the sea level with a rainfall of 1600mm per year, and sandy loam. I bought the farm in 1988 and I planted coffee for the first time in 1992. The total area of the farm is 8.75 mz out of which 7 mz are with coffee. The production is 200 QQ in parchment of pacamara and caturra variety. At the same time on this farm I am cultivating citrus fruits, musaceas and other such as yuccas and chayas.

I have a wife and two children.

What is the secret of your success?

The secret is in good harvesting practices. We cut only the ripe coffee beans and we have a good management in the wet mill as well as good agricultural practices in the whole production process. The immediate transport to the dry mill and the remarkable management that the mill Las Segovias carries out with our coffee.

How do you feel being a winner of the Cup of Excellence Nicaragua 2010?

I feel really motivated to continue bigger and better coffee production. We can improve our infrastructure as well as the whole production process. We can improve the wet mill and at the same time improve the family conditions of the workers and of the society in general.

The Cup of Excellence is of a benefit for the coffee producers and improves the lives of many families. It is a very successful initiative for us, the coffee producers, and for the country because it brings income to our country.
