Rancho Las Coles is located in a huge gully that is crossed by a river. The Finca has its own spring and the topography of the area protects our land from strong winds and flooding. It has also good sun light exposure that is balanced with the shade of banana trees. The Finca is owned by me and my wife Cecilia Meza Laffitte, is not common land. We own this land from more than 10 years. Before purchasing the finca, I lived in Mexico City and I didn’t know anything from coffee. I have been learning year by year about coffee cultivation and processing. Besides the coffee plantation, we own horses because we enjoy riding and raising them. We have also a small farm with sheep and hens. Each harvest season, all the people that are involved in the cherry picking, mainly neighbor women, get together and made a ceremony to thank God for the fertile land he gave us. After the ceremony we have breakfast together and we eat tamales and atole made by the cherry pickers. We do this at the beginning and at the end of the fourth picking.
We are very proud and now we feel responsible for improving the quality and the production. It encourages me to innovate in my process. With the money that I will earn from the auction, I will buy more land and increase the coffee production area.
