Finca Tizapa is located in the western part of El Salvador , in the municipality of Apaneca, Ahuachapan, one of the best coffee growing regions in El Salvador . Finca Tizapa occupies a good part of Cerro de Oro (Hill of Gold), one of the hills that surround the village of Apaneca, the highest (by elevation from sea level) town in El Salvador , blessed by year-round cool temperatures and lush vegetation. Finca Tizapa's altitude ranges from about 1,200 to more than 1,500 meters above sea level, at the summit of the Cerro de Oro. Finca Tizapa maintains a private forestry preserve, home to endangered species such as mountain cats, deer and a large variety of birds. We grow our coffee in the shade of indigenous mountain trees, with a relatively small amount of chemical fertilizers and very little pesticides. To conserve sometimes scarce water, we have built small reservoirs strategically located throughout the property.
The management of Finca Tizapa also believes in supporting the surrounding communities. Some of the programs done in the past few years include help in fixing roads and transporting residents after heavy mudslides in the area and a program, run for many years now, whereby we privately subsidize the cost of tools and fertilizers to our workers and some of our smaller neighbors for them to use in their own farms.
History of the farm:
Tizapa was originally part of Las Victorias, one of the pioneer coffee farms in the Apaneca region of El Salvador . Dona Haydee, the present owner, is the third generation in her family to own the property and has put a great deal of effort into maintaining the high quality that has characterized this farm for so many years. Currently, Tizapa has mostly Bourbón trees with small areas of Pacamara.
