Mengestu Demise is a coffee farmer in Gedo zone, Yirgachefe woreda, Tulsi village, SNNPR. He produces Kurume & Kulisha variety coffee on 3.6 hectares. He processes up to 2,300 kilograms of natural dry coffee per year. Currently, he exports his coffee to North Korea and hopes to expand his market.

In this year’s Cup of Excellence Ethiopia competition, Mengestu’s coffee scored 85.57, and become one of the national winners. “I worked to become number one, but I am still happy. This is a great opportunity for me to expand my market and find other international buyers,” said Mengestu.
