At an altitude of 1750 meters in the community of Bañaderos, Santiago de Puringla, La Paz is located the farm Bañaderos of Hotilio Hernández, he has to go every day 30 minutes by car and one hour walking from Santiago de Puringla to his farm, to do what he does better and loves, produce coffee.
His father instilled in him from an early love for the work and Hotilio was learning everything about coffee production, he learned to plant, clean, fertilize, pick and process coffee properly. In 2009 he helped his father prepare a coffee lot for COE and obtained 11th place, that was the encouragement he needed to decide to start his own farm and his own history in the world of coffee.
With the support of IHCAFE, he could plant the variety IHCAFE90 on a plot he inherited from his father and was cultivating the plot with great care and enthusiasm. Following the recommendations of technicians of IHCAFE made a management program based on good fertilization, pruning and disease control especially “ojo de gallo” and “broca”. Hotilio produces washed coffee being careful to use mountain water and dry the coffee in a slow process to get the appropriate point.
Hotilio decided to participate in COE with the first harvest of his farm, at first he was not sure he could win because the crop was not sufficiently developed, great was his surprise when he won third place in 2012, but the following year he participated in the event wining again until this 2015.
COE allowed to Hotilio improve his process and enter the international market, the past four years he has sold microlots to the Japanese market.
