History of the farm:
Fazenda dos Tachos had its beginnings around 1780, when a rich Portuguese arrived here, settled, and later sent for two nephews from the court. He gave them the lands of Rio Verde, on the borders of which Fazenda dos Tachos is found. Being single, he left the farm and went to a convent.
Since then the farm was shared among its heirs, and we wish it to remain in our family for a long time.
Our main activity is coffee growing. We have small herds of cattle and Mangalarga Marchador horses, in addition to rural tourism with a restaurant and an orchidary.
We have two children, who are agricultural technicians, and one of them studied environmental management and is studying agricultural engineering. Both work with coffee.
Coffee processing system:
All of the coffee is transported from the field to the patio on the day it is harvested. Afterwards it is washed and spread on the asphalt patio in as thin layers as possible, staying there and being raked until the beans reach 11% humidity. When weather permits, it is dried only in the sun. Then it goes to the granary until it is processed, and, next, to the warehouse.
Concern about quality:
For more than 5 years we have been certified by Certifica Minas, for 3 years Fair Trade, we are UNIPCAFEM members. We also have a partnership with Nucoffee. All of the coffee is tracked and we follow strict control in the use of products applied to the crops, respecting the environment and the safety of our workers. All of them have done courses required by the Labor Ministry and are administered by Senar-Minas. We are monitored by Agricultural Engineer Ronaldo Vilas Boas and we are audited annually by Certifica Minas, Fair Trade, IMA and Nucoffee. We seek balance between “environmentally correct, socially just and economically viable.” The concern about quality is due to the fact that “coffee is nourishment and should be treated as such.”
