Overview:
I was born in the village Corralejas in the municipality of Sotara in the department of Cauca on September 4th of 1965. My parents have been dedicated to coffee, as my grandparents did and because of their coffee activity I linked also to the coffee growing, which is now continued by the new generations of my family. In 1984 I built up my home with my wife Margoth Consuelo Salazar and we bought a little piece of ground of one hectare where we had half of the ground with Typica coffee and two cows.
With great effort, dedication and with the support of my wife, we could acquire the farm that we currently have with 4.000 coffee plants renewed with Castillo, Colombia and Caturra variety that are part of my family business. Our son Dario Hernan with his wife Marleny, our daughter Veronica and our youngest son Alejandro who is 12 years old, have continued the tradition and now they are coffee farmers, each one with its own coffee lot and also linked to the specialty coffee group Nespresso AAA. This program began in this municipality because eight years ago the quality of the coffee of the zone was been highlighted through the participation of many coffee farmers in contests done by the Colombia n Coffee Growers Federation. From those contests, I still save the certification where we are in the 15 best coffee lots of Cauca. In 2009 we participated in the sustainable quality contest in the department of Tolima where I occupied the second place.
From the Nespresso program we did the process for the certification of the farm under Rainforest Alliance in 2010 and this has allowed me to change my little farm into a great business of sustainable coffee, managing the environmental, social and economic components and the quality of the grain.
My wish is to be able to continue growing coffee and in that way continue improving the quality of my familys life. My dreams are focused on seeing my children realized in their studies, linked to the countryside because it is where we belong.
