Carlos Mario is a young coffee producer based in the municipality of Pitalito, Huila department. He was born on October 1st of 1984 in Santa Rosa – Cauca. At his 20 years, serving his citizen age, took the road as “wanderer” (nomadic people) and his first destination was to Pitalito “where coffee was very difficult.” He never imagined finding “pato”, as he affectionately calls his wife Gloria Patricia Realpe Galindez. She is the best harvest that the boss (his father in law) let him to pick up, -he use to say-. This home is adorned 9 years ago with their daughter Angie Alejandra.
Thanks to the affinity of Carlos Mario with the father-in law and brothers-in law, the farm “El Recuerdo”, has today 2.5 hectares in coffee, established 75% in caturra and 25% in castillo variety. This property is located at 1,700 meters above level sea, with the adequate infrastructure for the processing, also has natural reserves and a spring water to preserve. The wet facilities are ecologic and friendly with the environment; he loves order and cleanness as well in his woody house as in the facilities for coffee and in the plantation in general.
Carlos Mario follows up the recommendations of the coffee institutionalism and right now is a member of the coffee cooperative of his location. “My aspiration is to be a great leader of the community where I live” not anybody gets the opportunity to be as one of winners of Cup of Excellence, and the fortune gives me this opportunity, I will take the advantages of this privilege. I live with great illusion and expectation about coffee, I believe that with coffee I will bring up my family included the sons that I get to have. With difficulties but with care I take out my coffee through a very steep path, because there is not a pavement route, same as I do the required daily labors for the maintenance of my coffee plantation.
