What is your farm’s history? Is your farm a family unit? How long has it belonged to your family? How many members make up your family?
I became a coffee grower in 2014, I bought this farm that already it had planted coffee with varieties like Yellow Catuai,
Pacas
and IHCAFE – 90. Since then I am directly in charge of my farm with the help of my son. It is a familiar farm and I hope to leave a heritage for my sons and grandsons.
How many persons work in your farm, family members, permanent employees and temporary employees?
I hire 4 – 5 people to help us in the management of the farm, for harvest season I hire 15 – 20 people to help us in picking, milling, washing and drying activities.

I have planted fruit trees and we protect the forest and water in our farm.

your farm?
We have 15% of shade with some original species and fruits. I have planted avocado, bananas, oranges and
other kind
of fruits.
What type of fertilization process and rust control do you use
in
your farm?
We fertilize with a special formula for coffee crops Nutricafe (18-3-18) and also we do two applications of chicken manure combined with coffee pulp.
What type of management do you use in your farm (traditional, semi-technical, and technical?)
It is a semi-technical farm.
Are you part of an association or cooperative?
No, I am a single producer.
What is the secret for winning this competition (describe the preparation process of the competing lot)?
My farm is located in an area with good climate and soil conditions. Besides I pay more to pickers to get just ripe cherries. We do the wet milling the same day and we use clean water from the mountain to wash the coffee. The drying process is done in a solar drier for 15 days.
How does it feel to be a winner of the Cup of Excellence?
It is a satisfaction to be a winner. All my family members are happy and very hopeful.
Who prepares your coffee for exportation? (Explain how you sell it and to whom)?
This is my first year exporting my coffee.
What is your opinion of the Cup of Excellence?
COE is a great program that helps to farmers to get into the international market.
What has been your experience in the Cup of Excellence?
It is my first year as a participant.
