Los Pirineos is located in the top of the Tecapa Volcano, and between the coffee towns of Santiago de Maria and Berlin. Due to the excellent farm conditions, rich organic volcanic soil, high altitude 1450 Mts. above sea level, shade has grown, and the perfect sun exposure orientation, producing one of the top specialty coffees from El Salvador .
The farm is currently own by Gilberto Baraona, third generation coffee grower, and exporter. The farm has been in the family since 1890. Gilberto, the coffee farm, and mill owner has worked in the building and designing the most modern specialty coffee mill in El Salvador , the mill is located on the farm, where all the coffee that is produced in Los Pirineos is processed. wet mill and dried.
Los Pirineos has won in the past year's top positions in past El Salvador COE events, and rank 10th placed worldwide in SCAA comp in 2007.
The coffee varieties produced are Bourbón Elites, Arabica, and Pacamara. Los Pirineos has the F2 and F3 Pacamara genetic line, that was the original Pacamara developed on a neighboring farm. Currently, Los Pirineos is the cradle for the development of new coffee varieties such as the Central American F1, variety and Gilberto is in the quest for the Next Gesha, experimenting with more than 42 coffee varieties from all over the world.
This Bourbón, is what Gilberto calls Elite , and was specially selected by him, as one of the best Bourbóns ever developed in the farm, and additionally was treated and processed , as recommended by experience coffee buyers with experiment trials with his friends Tim Wendelboe ( Nordic Aproach) and Taroh Suzuki ( Saza Coffee).
The coffee was very slowly dry in African beds that took more than 21 days to achieve the right condition, additionally was extra washed and soaked for 24 hours to obtain an extra clean coffee and maintain is quality.
Los Pirineos Bourbón has been describing by experts coffee buyers, as Top best coffees in El Salvador , One of the best Bourbóns in the world”. ¨this Farm has placed more than 5 times in the past 6 years in the top positions in COE El Salvador . ¨
The farm provides all year permanent jobs for 70 persons, and during harvest 100.
The majority of the proceeds from the COE gains are reinvested in the farm for coffee variety trials and experiments and share with the farm administration as an additional benefit and prize.
