What is your secret for winning the competition?
We have approximately 15 years of working with CISA Exp This company has been very important because we have supported, and motivated to improve the management of our coffee and it was so we joined Starbucks and this teaches us to work in a more orderly management of the lots, based on soil analysis to make more effective the fertilization and the handling of fabrics as well cafe management in the milling process in order to achieve better quality. FORMUNICA also has played an important role because they have provided technical assistance and facilities for the acquisition of products. How do you feel for being a winner? I am proud to represent my town. Satisfied to achieve the proposed goal and motivation to continue efforts to produce more and better quality.
What do you think of the Cup of Excellence?
I think it is very important for producers f coffee that challenges us to leave the traditional way that has been grown coffee. We are motivated to venture into these new methods or ways to grow this area and these awards are to help a lot in the difficult situation confront many times producers and our workers, especially today when the world economy is so damaged. In all this interview I want to add something that for me is very important: if you have noticed in all that I have narrated, often use the word us. And its not just about me, which is a partnership with my brother Rommel, whom my father Luis Alberto Ortez, with hard work and dedication has been supporting us to enter the world of coffee. I am the eldest of five children. About 25 years ago, my dad helped us buy a small farm to my brother Rommel Alberto Ortez and me. Since then the two partners and together weve worked defied all challenges posed by this business. As a result, we managed to achieve this important position in cup of excellence. We have always had a good relationship both as brothers and also as partners. Whenever decisions in the work, projects or any activity relating to the farm work performed while the common agreement, therefore, he is so deserving of this victory reached. Besides that he also has his family: - Your name: Rommel Alberto Ortez Urbina - His wife Sobeyda del Rosario Herrera - Their children: Brenda Herrera Milagros Ortez - Rommel Ortez Ernesto Herrera - Jesus Alberto Herrera Ortez - Carlos Enrique Ortez Herrera And finally, I mean three years ago we proposed to build our own dry mill to give a better treatment for our coffee and thus achieve better quality. And I think in part we owe it also to have reached this position in this contest. We currently have 4 yards for about 600 quintals parchment and a warehouse to store around 800 bags. This year we have set up our own trail and a classifier for thus giving the whole process in person at our cafe.
