Farm
Histroy Fazenda Monte Verde belongs to Claudio Junqueira Ferraz de Almeida, who leased an area to his son, Luiz Claudio Ferrari Ferraz de Almeida, who is involved in the production of high quality coffees and cattle raising. In 2002, Claudio Junqueira Ferraz de Almeida acquired the farm for coffee production and cattle raising, and in 2004 he leased part of Fazenda Monte Verde to his son, Luiz Claudio. The infrastructure required for coffee production, such as the equipment to treat coffee after harvesting - such as coffee washer, pulper, drier, concrete terraces to for the beans to dry, bins for the coffee to rest and for storage and equipment for final processing, belongs to the lessor. The property is in a region with mild climate, with 1,700 mm of annual rainfalls and an altitude between 910 and 1,310 meters. Fazenda Monte Verde - Gleba 2 has fertile lands, favorable climatic and topographic conditions for coffee production and it is managed by Cesar Augusto Ferraz Junqueira with the assistance of an agronomist. Furthermore, it has the technical assistance of Cocarive agronomists to monitor the plantations. Nursery trees were planted following the contour lines, for soil preservation. In addition to coffee growing, cattle raising is another activity carried out in this property. The farm maintains environmental preservation areas, where native plants and wild animals can be found. The riparian woods, water sources and creeks of the property are protected.
Coffee processing system
Coffee is selective and the beans are picked by hand on cloth, avoiding the contact of the beans with the soil. On the same day the beans are picked, they pass through a mechanical washer using drinking water. The water used in the washers and pulpers is recycled, using decanting tanks, and consequently, protecting the environment. Immediately after, the cherry beans are pulped and transferred to the concrete patios to dry, distributed in very fine layers, in order not to lose the quality of the cup. Beans dry under the sun, carefully and slowly, to produce high quality coffees. When they reach their ideal drying level they are transferred to bins made and lined with wood to rest for 30 days. After the coffee has rested for that period, the lots are processed, bagged and stocked at the Cocarive Cooperative's warehouses, to be commercialized. Concern with quality Plantations are managed in a sustainable manner, bearing in mind leaving to the next generations an environment similar to or better than what we have today. The owners are always concerned with quality, from the moment they select the best nursery trees and best soil for the plantations, to produce coffees that have good body and are soft sweet. Fazenda Monte Verde - Gleba 2's goal is to constantly improve the quality of its coffees. Its owner is always present at meetings, talks and lectures on coffee, and visits other properties to learn about new technologies to improve its quality.
