Rumudamo Trading PLC from Sidama, SNNPR submitted multiple lots to the Cup of Excellence competition and won two presidential awards for the second and third place coffees with scores of 90.89 and 90.25, respectively. Their third coffee received 89.07 points for eight place.

The PLC was established in 2015 by seven shareholders and works with 35 outgrowers on 88 hectares. The company processes dry natural coffee on a raised bed, pulped using its own four disk haggard machine. In 2018 they established a wet-mill to process washed coffee. Their sales were limited to local buyers including ECX due to lack of international market.

“Feed the Future Ethiopia Value Chain Activity brought this opportunity for us and provided us with the necessary information about the competition. This is a new market opportunity. We are very happy to be in the top winning coffees,” said Bogale Woldehana, Managing Director of the PLC. “Our hard work has paid off and we are so happy and grateful” he added.

The PLC and outgrower farmers hope this new opportunity will introduce their coffee to new destinations and encourage them to keep on producing quality coffee.
