We have been in the coffee business by heritage for several generations and our family is dedicated to the coffee production from the seed going thru the seedling and seedbed, to the coffee plantation and the milling process.
This farm is located in Naranjo of Alajuela in an uptown quiet village, where we have volcanic soils and a perfect climate suitable for this crop: warm and with moderate rain.
We own three coffee farms: La Casa, Zapote and Fidel; Fidel is the winner of this Cup of Excellence. It is named after Mr. Fidel, its former owner, who strenuously insisted that the farm had to be ours, it meant a huge effort for the family but we bought it in the end. We take special care of this farm; we started by making roads and planting new coffee trees and still have a long way to go and a lot of hectares to plant!! The foreign and national visitors are amazed after visiting it because of its great beauty.
In 2009 we had the opportunity to manage a neighbor micro-mill that had won the Cup of Excellence years before. This was a great experience, and we learned a lot about the milling process of the coffee.
This harvest, we decided to use our own milling equipment in our backyard and we sundried the coffee in a greenhouse. After previous cuppings we decided that is was time to participate in Cup of Excellence achieving excellent and unexpected results.
It was very exciting when we realized we had won the first place. It has been a great motivation to continue the hard work and effort. This is not an easy project but we give it our all and work with passion to produce great quality coffee!
