Farm
HistroyFazenda Castelhano is located in the Municipality of Pedralva, Sul de Minas. The land is in a mountainous region, with an altitude between 1,200 and 1,400 meters. Eight years ago, the owners began their coffee plantation. The owners of the property (Makoto Wakabayashi and other) opted to work in a partnership currently consisting of 12 families.
Coffee processing system
Coffee is picked manually on cloth, because of the rough topography of the farm. The harvested coffee is washed, pulped and spread out on a terrace on the same day, and remain on the terrace until it is completely dried. Subsequently it is stored in a warehouse until it is distributed. Concern with quality To ensure the product's integrity, the beans are stored in a warehouse in the property. Fazenda Castelhano's owners opted for better quality instead of quantity, with the technical support of the owner's son, who is an agronomist, because of the farm's rough topography. The owners plan to install a special drier for pulped cherry coffee, and already have ordered its design and project.
