Farm Story:
It was founded in 1872 by Mr. Cornelio Lemus great-grandfather of Margarita Lucia Díaz de López, and has remained in the family for five generations. In 2004 Margarita’s son Emilio Lopez Diaz began overseeing and managing La Cumbre. Originally planted with Red Bourbon, La Cumbre has gone through mayor renovation in the last few years after the rust hit the farm. In 2013 the Yellow Bourbon and Pacamara cultivars were introduced to the farm, then in 2014 the Gesha variety, and in 2015 the SL-34. In 2016 and 2017 the renewals continued by adding Ethiopia Heirloom varietals which soon will also shine and be part of the repertoire of cultivars at La Cumbre.
The milling was all done at Beneficio El Manzano, a state of the art facility located at the neighboring farm El Manzano. The capacity of the mill is of about 600 Tons of green exportable coffee mainly comprised of high end specialty coffees, with focused on Natural, honey and fully washed processes. The mill is also used by different institutions and entities, like CQI to deliver the newly launched Q-Processing Courses; and also by Pinhalense milling equipment manufacturer to test and develop new equipment focused on high end quality coffees.
Finca La Cumbre and Beneficio El Manzano are fully ran and managed by a completely vertically integrated coffee group called Cuatro M Cafes which has operations in El Salvador, the United States, and Brazil. These operations include brand names like Finca Ayutepeque, Fazenda Santana, Topeca Coffee, Odyssey Coffees, to name a few.
