The producer’s story begins with her return to Minas Gerais, after leaving Sinop, a city in Mato Grosso. Cláudia left law to dedicate herself entirely to coffee production, which she had fallen in love with, beginning activities at Sítio Pedra Petra in 2016.
Focusing on quality, productivity, well-being of the workers and preserving the environment, Cláudia followed the example of her father, Antônio Fortes Bustamante, various awards from BSCA (Brazil Specialty Coffee Association), as well as first place in Best Cup CarmoCoffees in 2017, a competition that selects the best coffees in the Carmo de Minas region.
Cláudia is active in AMECAFÉ (Mantiqueira de Minas Region Women’s Coffee Entrepreneurs’ Association).
The producer is part of the fourth generation of coffee producers in the family. Her daughters are also starting their lives in the wonderful world of coffee, however as they are still in college, they do not actively participate in activities at the farm. One of her daughters studies agronomy at UFLA (Federal University of Lavras) and participates in a coffee research group, QICafé, and the other studies veterinary medicine.
The producer manages the farm, participating in all processes, from analyzing areas for new planting, following the agronomists, purchasing agricultural inputs, overall management of production, harvest, post-harvest and commercialization.
The coffee chosen for this competition was picked by hand, selectively, and dried bean by bean on a cement patio for two days. Then it was transferred to a greenhouse, where it was raked several times per day until reaching the ideal humidity for warehousing.
The producer always seeks new knowledge and technologies through training courses, workshops, etc., seeking to improve not only quality and productivity, but also the well-being of workers and the preservation of the environment.
